How to dress a candle
Candle magic is one of the easiest and most powerful methods to set intentions.
The practice can be done prior to a bigger spell, or as ceremony by itself!
Set Your Intentions:
Often, this is the most overlooked - yet the most important step. Be sure you can picture
clearly the end result you want in your mind. When you have a clear picture and are ready
to set your intention, be unmistakable about what you want. Don’t just say; “I want a new job.”
Do say; “I will get a job in (__________) by years end and I will make $65k with benefits,
and a great vacation package.”
Carving Your Candle(s) (optional)
Carving is a fun and creative way to personalize your experience of dressing your candle.
The easiest way to do this is with a safety pin, but there is no wrong or right way to do this.
If you choose to do this part, just trust your instincts, and go for it. Think about symbols,
mantras, drawings, or names that correspond with your goal and carve them into
your candle(s)!
Anoint Your Candle
When you are ready to anoint, or dress your candle, start by grinding the herbs you are
using to support your intention. You can use a mortar and pestle, or even a clean coffee
grinder to mix them. Make sure you are clearly focusing on your intention during this part.
You can even say it out loud if you want! Once the herbs are ground and blended, pour
them onto a flat clean surface and spread them out.
Again, focus clearly on the intention you are
setting. Next, rub oil all over your candle. You can use
a carrier oil such as Olive oil, or Almond oil, or you can use essential oils, however, using a combination of both is best, because you need it to be really moist to pick up the herbs.
Sprinkle Your Candle
Once your candle(s) are moist, roll them in your herb mixture. You can roll back and forth as many times as you want to pick up the herbs. Once the candle is full of herbs, stand it up to dry, or burn right then and there!
